To achieve this, new methods and tools are required to cope with increasing product variants and system complexity. Therefore, we propose a holistic systematics to develop a consistent, model-based architecture for products, production systems and their interdependencies. For this, we give a domain-specific ontology containing model elements, relationships and attributes. Ontology and systematics are applied to a use-case from the automotive industry.
