In particular, the high degree of geometric freedom offers great potential in terms of lightweight structures as well as material utilization. Support structures are needed to connect the components to the building platform, support overhanging sections and facilitate heat dissipation. Especially with complex part designs, removing the support structures can be a challenging task. In order to analyze the milling process of these structures, an approach to model the subsequent machining within a geometric physics-based simulation system is presented.

Keywords: Selective laser melting (SLM); Simulation System; Force prediction

Video presentation

Presenting author

Name:

Affiliation:

Email:

Eva Jaeger

Technische Universitaet Dortmund, Germany

eva.jaeger@tu-dortmund.de

by Eva Jaeger, Jim A.
