Accurate mapping of the friction behavior is a fundamental part of FE chip formation simulations. Thus, a friction model is required under consideration of lubrication and cooling effects of the cutting fluids. The coefficient of friction and the contact temperature are measured. The relative speed and normal force are varied over a range, which is prevailing in turning for the specific material.
